What is SEO and why is it so important?

Search engine optimisation (SEO) betters your chances of being seen on a search engine organically. Google, Bing, Yahoo etc. are all classed as search engines.

There are multiple types of SEO: local, image, video, technical, on-page and off-page, but we’ll focus on the last three for now.

1. Technical SEO

This takes place in the back-end of a site, if a website is set up properly, is accessible, loads fast and is secure, Google finds it easier to crawl, in-turn helping Google make its decision on whether you’re a relevant contender for the search engine results page (SERPs).

The aim of the game is to optimise your website SO WELL, that no one has to go to the second page to find you. And let’s face it, who goes to the second page of Google? Not us.

2. On-page SEO

This is the content that you have on your website, your meta-descriptions, content quality, your choice of keywords and how they relate to your products and services and your choice of URLs.

Optimising your content helps the search engine understand exactly what you’re trying to sell to get you in front of the people requiring your business's offering. But also, helps the consumer find the most relevant results for their query.

 

3. Off-page SEO

This is your PR activity, influencers, social signals and backlinks – where other companies are endorsing your content, products or services. It’s basically people talking about you, letting Google know that you’re a reputable brand.
