It’s often said that ‘There is no love like the first’.
Well we at Proctors studio have memories of a first love that definitely was like no other, but not necessarily in a good way.
The first ever Apple Macintosh went on sale in 1984 and it was a few years down the line in 1987 that Proctors started using it.
Yes, there was plenty to love, and love it we did, but I can also remember that in reference to the relative disconnect between the 9” screen size and the A4 DPS spreads we were designing, cries of ‘It’s like designing through a toilet roll’ could often be heard around the studio.
There is no love like the first, and this was the computer that designers like me truly loved for the first time.
But of course what came afterwards, would keep turning our heads and so it was that the first Macintosh was consigned to the pages of design studio history.
