Our Christmas present to you: a free digital marketing audit

In order to compete effectively in the digital marketing world in 2016 and beyond, an organisation needs to concentrate on three things, says Smart Insights in its latest Managing Digital Marketing 2016 report.

Those three pillars are:

  • A digital strategy and plan (clearly defined and integrated into the overall marketing strategy)
  • A digital transformation programme
  • A customer journey analysis programme which supports improvement techniques

However, Smart Insights’ report suggests that just a handful of businesses are giving themselves a platform to be successful with their digital marketing.

Nearly half (47%) of Smart Insights’ respondents said they have yet to document a clearly defined digital marketing strategy, while more than a third (34%) said they have no plans to run a digital transformation programme in the foreseeable future.  

Meanwhile, less than one in five (18%) of the firms surveyed said they were using customer personas to optimise their digital marketing efforts – the top answer given when asked about what techniques they use to hone their digital communications. AB testing (17%), customer journey mapping (16%) and path analysis (11%) are three other improvement techniques which aren’t being used anywhere near often enough.
