Care to share?

Digg. Reddit. Delicious. StumbleUpon. What does it all mean? And most importantly, what do these sites do for you?

Getting social…
Put simply, these services let you share interesting comment with others. Twitter, LinkedIn and Facebook – the mainstream social media services you’re likely to be familiar with already – can be used to broadcast links directly to your friends, colleagues and followers. But what about the rest?

Online bookmarking
It’s likely that you already bookmark sites as you browse. But wouldn’t it be good if you could take those bookmarks from PC to PC? Well, as a matter of fact, you can – Del.icio.us is one of a number online bookmarking sites that lets you take your favourites websites with you wherever you go.

Dedicated sharing services
There are a number of services that flag popular web content. The most popular include Digg, Reddit and StumbleUpon, though there are many, many more. These sites work by encouraging users to flag content they find interesting. Some – such as Mixx – allow negative voting, and most will let you comment on content you rate.

Why share?
It’s a web-karma thing. Though you needn’t share to use these services, when you visit sites you can benefit from other user’s recommendations. In practical terms, this means discovering interesting pages and memes that might have passed you by.

Sites are all free to use, though do require registration. If we've missed a service that you think is simply fantastic, please drop us a line with your suggestion. We'll say thank you, check it out, and add it to our sharing panel.
